The movement of creating new Pansori that started in the end of the 20th century is a very interesting and meaningful flow that was actively attempted on the basis of the existing Pansori tradition. Performers who call themselves ¡®Ddorang Gwangdae (a clown performing around a ditch)¡± made 20~60-minute-works in a simple and humorous style based on the daily lives in consideration of the tastes of the people of the day.
Before and after the national independence, Dong-Sil Park who was an excellent performer and composer, created a Pansori, ¡®Yeol-sa-ga,¡¯ which depicted the life story of the heroes who resisted the Japanese imperialism. It was spread throughout the nation to give courage to the populace of the day.
Around 1970, an excellent performer, Jin-Taek Im, made a Pansori criticizing and resisting the military regime. Using the original works of Ji-Ha Kim¡¯s, he made <Five Enemies> and <History of Music>. They became a solace to those who were under the military regime, and they were remembered by the people. Jin-Taek Im expanded the prospects of creative Pansori by creating <Dung Sea> and <Gwangju in May>.
An excellent performer, Dong-Jin Park made restoration Pansori by giving rhythms to Pansori that had only the story without song. That is, he restored the stories suitably for the styles of Pansori, adding rhythms and Jangdan. He made albums of <Byeon Gang-Soi Ga>, <Lady Sookyoung Jeon>, <Baebijang Jeon>, <Jangkki Taryeong> and <Onggojib Jeon>, and also had performances of them. In addition, he created <Holy Hero Lee Soon-Shin>, <Yoo Gwan-Sun Jeon> and <Bible Pansori>, and sang them so he made the traditions of the creative Pansori affluent.
As mentioned in the above, there were young singers who gave modern energy to Pansori by singing creative Pansori while naming themselves ¡®Ddorang Gwangdae¡¯. This Pansori of a new trend lasted for about 30 minutes, which employed some techniques of the traditional Pansori to depict daily lives simply.
Young singers who made creative Pansori, organized clubs such as ¡®Panse,¡¯ Soriyeose,¡¯ ¡®Taru,¡¯ ¡®Badak Sori,¡¯ etc. and they, escaping from the westernized theater-like stage, had a performance where many people get together as if they intended to restore the past type of ¡®Pan (ground)¡¯. The creative Pansoris that these young singers sang were: <Tale of Jesus Christ> and <Bush¡¯s Version of Dung Sea> of Gyu-Ho Lee; <The Record of A Supermarket Woman¡¯s Participating in Ssireum Tournament> and <Super Mazinger Daughter-In-Law> of Myeong-Ja Kim; <Rush Part In the First Part of Jug in Star Craft> and <Three Gos and Pibak> of Tae-Oh Park; <Father¡¯s Fine> of Deok-In Lee; <Blind Owl> of Yoo-Sook Jeong; <I May Be A Fool> of Su-Mi Kim; and others.
