>Information on Pansori |

 |

Seungdochang is a Pansori of which a singer gives a performance on a rope. It is not handed down now so its details are unknown. There is no record of Seungdochang either. Those who were involved in tightrope dancing or tumbling came from a group of Pansori singers or acrobatic tumblers. Nal-Chi Lee became a noted Pansori singer while tightrope dancing. Pan-Gae Jang was excellent at rope-riding too. A drummer Jeong-Eob Lee was involved in tightrope dancing, but he was injured while tightrope dancing so he became a drummer. As mentioned above, tightrope dancing and singing are closely related. There is a saying, ˇ°If one is good at singing, one plays Pansori, if one is poor at singing, one plays an musical instrument, and if one is poor at both, one rides a rope or tumbles on the yard.ˇ± It suggests that Pansori and tightrope dancing are closely related. |
