The Dragon King of the Southern Sea builds a new palace, Yeongdeokjeon, and invites many guests for a party. The King becomes sick, however, and it is said that the sickness can be cured only with the liver of a hare living on land. Byeoljubu, a terrapin, is sent for a hare. After some trouble, Byeoljubu finds a hare and brings it to the underwater palace by luring him with a fluent tongue. The hare believes a promise for a government position, follows the terrapin to the underwater palace, but later realizes his dangerous situation in the palace. He coaxes the Dragon King to allow him to return to land by explaining that his liver was left behind on land, He escapes death as a result.
