Age Survey

The structure of Pansori was formed and developed into various branches, such as Dongpyeonje, Seopyeonje, and Junggoje in the first half of the 19th Century around the Sunjo age (1801-1834). This reprsented the heyday of Pansori when it was sung by Yangbans (the upper class) in Seoul and Gyeonggi as well as in palaces. It is commonly called the first age of eight renowned singers because eight renowned singers were active during this time.
